Lots of collaborating occurs during a workshop. Participants tend to come up with creative solutions to on-site challenges.
Do you have a dream building you need help realising? Why not host a straw bale/timber frame workshop, and we will come teach for you. We offer weekend workshops, or more intensive week long courses. We can teach timber framing, natural building (straw bale, earthbag, cob, etc.), and plastering. Give us a shout and let's see what we can scheme up.
Everybody benefits from hands-on experience
Whether you are a construction professional or a complete novice, there is nothing like the opportunity to participate in the construction of a straw bale building before attempting to undertake your own structure.
Participants in our hands-on workshops have the chance to experience all the various facets of creating a small straw bale building, from foundation to roof. Our small-group format allows each participant to get some straw under their fingernails and try their hands at each stage of the building process.
Plenty of time is alloted for the discussion of different techniques and practices. Our aim is to make available as many options, ideas and possibilities as we can, and our discussion sessions are usually lively and exciting as each participant raises questions, concerns, insights and plans of their own.
Workshop Schedule:
August 12-16, 2012: Cordwood and Straw Bale Together at Last!
Tina Therrien and Rena Upitis will co-facilitate this workshop, guiding participants through the process of building an enchanting woodland retreat, combining the beauty of cordwood masonry and straw bale.
The workshop is being held at Wintergreen Studios, about an hour away from Kingston, ON, where there are several hobbit-like cabins and studios on the property.
